Cold brew tea is crisp, smooth, and endlessly refreshing — but here’s the catch: tea needs hot water to unlock its flavour. Even fruity blends benefit from heat to release the good stuff properly. Those ready-made “cold brew” bags you see on supermarket shelves? Many are overloaded with flavourings to make up for the fact that cold water alone doesn’t do much.
Here’s how to do it properly at home.
How to Make Cold Brew Tea
1. Brew it Hot 🔥
Start with your chosen blend. Add double the usual amount of tea and steep in freshly boiled water (2–5 minutes depending on the tea).
2. Cool It Down 🧊
Strain out the leaves and let the liquid cool. Ice cubes can speed things up if you’re impatient.
3. Chill in the Fridge ❄️
Transfer to a jug or bottle and refrigerate for 2–6 hours. This is where the flavours mellow into that silky cold-brew taste.
4. Serve It Up 🍹
Pour over ice. Add fresh fruit slices, herbs, or even a splash of sparkling water for extra flair.
